NBC has renewed “The Voice” for Season 29, announcing a major format overhaul and the return of three former coaches for the spring 2026 season.
Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine will return as coaches for what NBC is calling “The Voice: Battle of Champions.” The season gets its name because all three coaches are previous winners of the competition show. Clarkson will film both “The Voice” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” at the same time.
The new season will feature significant format changes across four rounds, each introducing elements never seen before on the show. Coaches will start with 10 artists per team instead of the usual format.
The revamped competition will begin with “Blinds,” where coaches compete in a “Triple Turn Competition” to achieve the most three-chair turns. The winning coach gains an advantage in the next round called “Battles,” where they automatically receive a “Super Steal” that can override any other coach’s attempt to steal a contestant.
In the “Knockouts” round, each coach will bring back two fan-favorite artists from previous seasons to compete in an “In-Season All-Star Competition.” Original “Voice” coach CeeLo Green will return as a guest to help determine winners in these special showdowns. The coach with the most victories in this round secures a second finalist spot.
The competition concludes with a Top 9 semi-final and Top 4 finale. For the first time, a voting block of super fans and former “Voice” contestants will join the studio audience to vote in real time during these final rounds.
Season 28 will air this fall with coaches Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire before the revamped Season 29 premieres in spring 2026.
