The ChatGPT Trick You’ve Been Missing for Perfect Prompts

ChatGPT users can now make their prompts more effective using a built-in feature that many have overlooked. The “Edit message” button lets you change your prompt after sending it, so the AI can adapt and give better responses.

Many users, including longtime ChatGPT Plus members, often tweak their prompts by typing follow-up messages to get the results they want. With “Edit message,” this extra step is no longer necessary. You can hover over a message on desktop or touch and hold it on mobile to edit your prompt directly.

The feature works with any message in a chat, not just the first prompt. Once you edit, ChatGPT adjusts its response based on the new instructions. It also shows your previous response, so you can easily continue the conversation or compare answers.

Using “Edit message” can make conversations shorter and more organized, reducing scrolling when revisiting a chat. It also saves time by allowing multiple edits to fine-tune the AI’s responses without creating extra messages.

This simple yet powerful feature is now available in the ChatGPT app and desktop interface, helping users get more accurate and useful results with less effort.
