Terminator Zero is an eight-episode science-fiction action anime series set in the Terminator universe, scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 29, 2024. The series was developed by Mattson Tomlin and is directed by Masashi Kudō.
The premise follows a scientist named Malcolm Lee in Japan who is developing an AI system to compete with Skynet. As Judgment Day approaches in 1997, Lee and his three children are pursued by an unknown Terminator assassin, while a mysterious soldier from the year 2022 named Eiko has been sent back in time to protect them.
The main voice cast includes Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator, André Holland as Malcolm Lee, Sonoya Mizuno as Eiko, Rosario Dawson as the AI Kokoro, and Ann Dowd as the resistance leader known as The Prophet.
Terminator Zero is being produced by Netflix, Skydance Television, and the animation studio Production I.G. Showrunner Mattson Tomlin has stated the series will treat all prior Terminator films as canon and incorporate a Japanese setting and aesthetic.
