Telegram has entered a major partnership with Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, to integrate the Grok chatbot into its platform for one year.
As part of the deal, xAI will pay Telegram $300 million in cash and equity, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced on Tuesday.
The partnership means Grok, which was previously available only to Telegram’s premium users, could soon be accessible to all Telegram users. Telegram will also receive 50% of the revenue from xAI subscription purchases made through the app.
A video shared by Durov shows Grok pinned at the top of chats, with users able to ask it questions directly from the search bar.
Grok will assist users with writing suggestions, summarizing chats, links, and documents, and even creating stickers. It will also help businesses by answering questions and assisting with moderation.
This deal marks a significant step in integrating advanced AI features into popular messaging apps, following similar moves by companies like Meta, which integrated Meta AI into Instagram and WhatsApp search bars.
