Walt Disney Studios has officially announced Teagan Croft as Rapunzel in its upcoming live-action adaptation of Tangled. The casting was revealed on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Croft, 21, is best known for her role as Raven in the DC series Titans and her acclaimed performance as solo sailor Jessica Watson in the Netflix biopic True Spirit.
Joining her as the charming outlaw Flynn Rider (Eugene Fitzherbert) is Milo Manheim, a Disney veteran recognized for the Zombies franchise and his recent Off-Broadway performance in Little Shop of Horrors. Manheim praised the casting, saying, “I have seen the light. Too grateful to put into words. I will do him justice, I promise.”
The project, directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) with a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder), is moving into active development after a global casting search.
The film will emphasize musical elements inspired by the original 2010 animated movie, scored by Alan Menken, highlighting Gracey’s focus on musical performance.
The role of Mother Gothel remains uncast, though early reports suggested Scarlett Johansson was in talks. Industry insiders speculate Disney may choose a Broadway veteran to match the original’s vocal demands.
While no official release date has been confirmed, analysts predict a theatrical debut in Holiday 2027 or Spring 2028, following Disney’s upcoming live-action releases such as Moana and Lilo & Stitch.
The announcement marks a major step forward in bringing Disney’s beloved story of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider to the big screen once again.
