‘Superman’ Soars With $40M in First Two Days at Global Box Office

DC and Warner Bros’ latest Superman film, directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, is off to a strong global start, earning $40.3 million across its first two days of release.

The total includes $22.5 million from Thursday night domestic previews, a record-setting figure, and $17.8 million from 57 international markets since its offshore rollout began on Wednesday.

The global figure reported so far does not include Friday’s earnings from North America.

International Highlights

The film launched in 9 international markets on Wednesday, expanding to 48 more on Thursday, and added 21 new territories on Friday, bringing the total to 78 countries.

France opened at $1.3M, ahead of several recent superhero titles and grew to $1.8M by Thursday.

In South Korea, Superman took the top spot with $700K on Wednesday. By Friday, it had reached an estimated $1.7M, with IMAX accounting for 18% of sales.

Italy saw a No. 1 debut at $519K, outperforming Man of Steel and other DC titles.

Indonesia opened at $462K, topping several major titles including The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick.

In the Philippines, Superman captured 78% of the market with a $386K opening, beating Mission: Impossible and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Thursday’s Bigger Market Debuts

Mexico delivered the biggest international opening at $2.2M, the second-highest DC opening day ever in the country.

Brazil followed with $2M, setting a new personal record for James Gunn and surpassing his work on Guardians and Joker.

Australia debuted at $1.3M, marking the best opening day of 2025 in that market.

UAE and Thailand also recorded No. 1 starts, with Thailand capturing 58% of the market on Thursday.

Meanwhile, China opened Friday with $2.4M, though expectations remain modest for that market.
