Hollywood pushes the “Ken doll” male body: eight-pack abs, veiny biceps, and chiseled jaws. Studies show men feel pressure to match this. It links to body image issues, excessive exercise, steroids, and eating disorders.

A poll by dating site Illicit Encounters asked 2,000 users to rate male body types. They viewed images of Seth Rogen, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Results:

  • 58% prefer “dad bod” like Rogen, DiCaprio, Chris Pratt, Jon Hamm, and Adam Sandler.
  • 22% like athletic builds like Ronaldo.
  • 10% choose slim frames like Mick Jagger or Jarvis Cocker.
  • 6% pick musclebound types.
  • 4% favor Jack Black’s build.

Relationship coach Jessica Leoni says dad bods seem less intimidating than six-packs. A 2021 Dating.com survey found the same.

Dating.com VP Maria Sullivan notes movies promote “Barbie and Ken” ideals, but real life differs. Celebrities like Jason Momoa, John Stamos, and Travis Kelce embrace softer bodies.

Jonah Hill shared his body scrutiny pain. He avoided pools until his 30s due to mockery. Now 42, he accepts himself and tells kids they are perfect.
