Netflix has confirmed that Mantis, a spin-off from the acclaimed Korean action film Kill Boksoon, will premiere on 26 September.

Directed by Lee Tae-sung, the film stars Yim Si-wan as Han-ul, an elite assassin known as “Mantis.” The actor is best known internationally for his role in seasons two and three of Squid Game.

The cast also includes Park Gyu-young, another Squid Game alum, as Han-ul’s friend and rival Jae-yi, and Jo Woo-jin as his former mentor, Dok-go.

According to Netflix, the story follows Han-ul’s return to a chaotic assassin underworld after a long absence. He soon finds himself in competition with both his old rival and mentor for dominance in the deadly hierarchy.

Mantis was greenlit after the success of Kill Boksoon, a 2023 thriller by Byun Sung-hyun that drew international praise for blending intense action with emotional storytelling. The film, led by Jeon Do-yeon, currently holds a 79% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
