Spotify Rolls Out Private Messaging for Music Lovers

Spotify has introduced a new in-app messaging feature called Messages, allowing users to share music, podcasts, and audiobooks directly within the app. The feature is rolling out this week for both Free and Premium users on mobile devices in select markets.

The new feature enables one-on-one conversations, letting users initiate private chats by selecting a contact they have previously interacted with on Spotify. Messages can include text and emoji reactions, giving users more ways to express themselves beyond simply sharing links.

Spotify aims to enhance content discovery, allowing friends and family to recommend and share their favorite music and podcasts. Users retain control over their interactions through privacy settings, which allow them to accept or decline message requests, block contacts, or disable the messaging feature entirely.

To ensure security and moderation, Spotify encrypts messages and scans them for harmful or unlawful content. Reported messages are reviewed to maintain compliance with Spotify’s terms of use.

The feature is currently available only in select markets but will gradually expand to additional regions. Spotify’s move positions the platform to compete more directly with other social networks by integrating communication tools to boost user engagement.
