Spotify may soon make it easier for users to import their music without using outside tools. A new APK teardown has revealed that Spotify is working on a feature that could let users import their playlists.
Right now, Spotify does not have a way to import music or playlists from other streaming services. Users who want to switch to Spotify must rebuild their playlists manually or use third-party apps, many of which charge fees.
The new feature was found in the code of Spotify’s latest app version (9.0.56.459). The code includes phrases like “Import your music” and “Go online to import your music,” suggesting that the feature may soon be available in the “Your Library” section of the app. There is also a URL connected to this tool, but it is not live yet.
It’s still unclear exactly how the feature will work or which services it will support. There is also no confirmation yet on whether it will allow full playlist transfers. However, since playlists are usually the main thing users want to bring when switching services, that seems likely.
Spotify does already let users add local music files to their library, but this feature appears to be different and focused on importing online content.
For now, this tool is still in development, and there is no official launch date.
