Spotify Launches ‘Listening Stats’ for Weekly Music Recaps

Spotify has introduced a new feature called “Listening Stats”, offering users weekly summaries of their music habits. The feature aims to give listeners a regular, personalized look at their favorite songs, artists, and genres, expanding on the success of Spotify Wrapped.

Announced during a virtual press event, Listening Stats will deliver short recaps every Sunday through in-app notifications, emails, and shareable graphics. These updates will highlight listening hours, top genres, and discoveries from the week.

Unlike the annual Wrapped event—which has become a global tradition since 2016—this new feature provides ongoing engagement throughout the year. Spotify says the weekly snapshots are designed to “celebrate your music tastes” and encourage exploration.

“Music isn’t just background noise; it’s the soundtrack to our lives,” said Clara Nilsson, Spotify’s Head of Personalization. “Listening Stats empowers users to celebrate their tastes, spot patterns, and maybe even branch out.”

According to Spotify, beta testing showed that weekly insights increased user engagement by up to 25%. The feature also includes playful additions such as “guilty pleasure alerts” and “discovery dives” for discovering new tracks.

Privacy remains optional and flexible—users can choose whether to receive these updates or what information to share.

Early users praised the feature for its instant feedback. One beta tester described it as “a mini-Wrapped every week,” while another DJ said it helped him design playlists based on his changing moods.

Spotify also confirmed that AI integration is being developed, allowing the platform’s AI DJ to generate playlists aligned with users’ weekly listening patterns. The feature is rolling out now for Premium subscribers worldwide, with free users gaining access next month.

As competition grows—Apple Music recently teased a similar “Habit Tracker”—Spotify hopes that consistent, data-driven personalization will keep its 626 million users more connected to their music.
