Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s new science fiction film, “Disclosure Day.” The movie is set to open in theaters on June 12.
The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Spielberg developed the story with screenwriter David Koepp, a longtime collaborator who previously worked with him on films such as Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds.
The trailer introduces Blunt as a meteorologist who experiences a strange and powerful extraterrestrial event while giving a live weather report on television. O’Connor plays a man determined to reveal proof of alien life to the world. The footage includes scenes of crop circles, car chases, disturbed animals, and signs that humans may not be alone on Earth.
The official logline asks what would happen if the truth about alien life was finally revealed to everyone. It hints that the world is approaching a moment known as “Disclosure Day.”
“Disclosure Day” marks Spielberg’s return to the science fiction genre that helped define his career. His first feature film, Firelight (1964), was also a sci-fi story. Over the years, he has directed major science fiction films such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Minority Report, and Ready Player One.
Spielberg has directed 37 films and his work has earned more than $10 billion at the global box office. He has won three Academy Awards, including two for best director. His most recent film, The Fabelmans (2023), received seven Oscar nominations.
“Disclosure Day” is produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger through Amblin Entertainment. Universal Pictures will handle the worldwide theatrical release.
