New rumors have emerged about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, revealing updates on the roles of key characters and the movie’s villain. Production is set to begin in August 2025, and the latest details suggest some changes for familiar faces.
Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds, a fan-favorite character, is rumored to have a much smaller role in the movie. Sources suggest that he may only appear in a cameo, which comes as no surprise given the events of No Way Home.
With Peter Parker (Tom Holland) moving on to college, Brand New Day is expected to introduce new supporting characters, including Peter’s college classmates.
Zendaya’s MJ is also expected to have a reduced role in this movie, as the focus shifts toward new faces. This aligns with the film’s premise of Peter Parker attempting to rebuild his life following the events of No Way Home.
On the villain front, speculation has intensified around the possibility of Mr. Negative making his big-screen debut. Stephen Oyoung, who voices Mr. Negative in the Marvel’s Spider-Man video game, recently hinted at the potential inclusion of the character in an interview.
While he hasn’t been contacted by Sony, Oyoung expressed hope that Mr. Negative would make an appearance in future media.
Daniel Wu, known for his role in Into the Badlands, is reportedly the front-runner to play Mr. Negative, with concept art of the character featuring Wu’s likeness. However, this remains unconfirmed, and fans are advised to take this information with caution.
In addition to Mr. Negative, the movie is expected to feature new characters from the comics, including Carlie Cooper and Lily Hollister, aka Menace. Rumors suggest Stranger Things star Sadie Sink could be cast in one of these roles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes inspiration from the Brand New Day comic arc, which focuses on Peter Parker rebuilding his life after major changes. However, the film is not expected to follow the comic storyline closely, especially with the impact of Doctor Strange’s spell from No Way Home.
The rumored synopsis for the film hints at Peter stepping back from his Spider-Man duties to focus on college, only to be pulled back into action when a new threat emerges. Fans are curious about the identity of the “unlikely ally” Peter will team up with, with some speculating it could be Sadie Sink’s character.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for release on July 31, 2026.
