Sony president Hideaki Nishino made the first official statement about the PlayStation 6’s future direction. He outlined Sony’s vision for balancing traditional console gaming with cloud technology.

In an investor interview, Nishino said Sony will continue focusing on local console gaming despite cloud gaming advances. He noted that network infrastructure remains unreliable for widespread cloud gaming adoption.

“The majority of players want to continue enjoying their games locally, without relying on network conditions,” Nishino stated. He emphasized that cloud gaming will supplement, not replace, traditional consoles.

Sony’s PS5 and PS4 consoles remain popular worldwide. The company’s PS Plus Premium service offers streaming options but serves as an alternative rather than a replacement for console gaming.

While Sony has not announced official details about the PS6, internal Microsoft documents suggest a possible 2028 release date. Industry speculation points to an AMD-designed chip with full backward compatibility.

The next PlayStation console is expected to blend local and cloud gaming features. Sony aims to create a lasting ecosystem that combines physical and digital gaming services.

Nishino’s comments signal that Sony will continue making traditional consoles while exploring new technologies. The company wants to serve both players who prefer physical consoles and those interested in digital innovations.

Sony’s strategy reflects the current gaming market where console sales remain strong despite cloud gaming growth. The PS6 will likely offer multiple gaming options to meet diverse player preferences.

The announcement marks Sony’s commitment to console gaming’s future while acknowledging technological changes in the industry.
