With Grand Theft Auto VI set to launch on May 26, 2026, excitement is building—and not just because of the latest trailer.
Behind the scenes, Sony is preparing a powerful PlayStation 5 Pro update that could make GTA 6 look even better than fans imagined.
Rockstar confirmed that much of the newly released GTA 6 trailer was captured on the PlayStation 5. Considering the stunning visuals, that alone raised expectations.
But now, Sony is reportedly working on next-gen image enhancement tech that could take things to a whole new level.
PS5 Pro Will Feature Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)
Leaked details reveal that Sony’s upcoming PSSR 2 (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) will leverage AI-powered upscaling to dramatically boost resolution and frame rates. According to tech insider Moore’s Law is Dead, the PS5 Pro will be capable of the following:
- 1080p at 120FPS (locked)
- 1440p at 120FPS (locked)
- 4K at 120FPS
- 8K at 60FPS
PSSR 2 is expected to upscale visuals from a base resolution as low as 864p using advanced AI algorithms—similar to what NVIDIA’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR do for PC gaming. This could allow for smoother gameplay and sharper visuals without heavily taxing the hardware.
GTA VI Will Be Even More Stunning on PS5 Pro
If this new PSSR technology is implemented in time, GTA VI may look even more impressive than it does now, especially on the PS5 Pro.
Given Rockstar’s reputation for pushing graphical boundaries and Sony’s ambition to match, players can expect GTA VI to set a new standard for visual fidelity on consoles.
Sony has not yet officially confirmed the PS5 Pro or the PSSR 2 update, but with GTA VI just over a year away, an announcement could be coming soon.
