Are the Sony LinkBuds Open Worth $200?

Sony has released the LinkBuds Open (WF-L910), the second generation of their open-ear earbuds.

These earbuds stand out with their unique design and new features, but are they worth the $200 price tag?

Design and Build
The LinkBuds Open features a dual pod design, with one earbud having a hole in the center to allow ambient sound. The earbuds are 2mm shorter than the previous version and have a rubber cover for a secure fit. However, they don’t come in different sizes, which may be an issue for some users.

Comfort and Fit
While some users may find the design comfortable, others may struggle to keep them in place. The earbuds are not suitable for everyone, especially those with smaller ears. This can affect comfort and make them hard to wear for extended periods.

Audio Performance
The sound quality of the LinkBuds Open is disappointing, particularly in the bass department. The lack of a strong low-end makes the music feel incomplete. While the mids are clear and the treble is bright, the overall sound lacks depth and detail.

Software Features
The earbuds connect to the Sony Connect app, which allows users to adjust EQ settings and access features like spatial audio and auto-play. However, the app feels bloated and the setup process can be tedious.

Noise Cancellation and Connectivity
These earbuds don’t have noise cancellation, as they are designed to let in ambient sound. They also leak sound, which could be distracting to others. Connectivity is generally good, though there is an issue with volume control causing popping noises.

Battery Life
The LinkBuds Open offers a solid 8 hours of battery life, which is decent but not exceptional given the lack of power-hungry features like noise cancellation.

The Sony LinkBuds Open offers a unique experience with their open-ear design, but their high price, poor bass, and fit issues make them a questionable purchase for some users. They’re an interesting concept, but they may not be the best choice for everyone.
