Should You Watch the New Superman Movie? Here’s What to Know

Superman Movie

The latest Superman movie, directed by James Gunn and released in July 2025, offers a new take on the famous superhero. Starring David Corenswet as Superman, the film blends classic action with moments of humor, although it may not fully satisfy all audiences.

Unlike previous versions, this film skips the usual origin story and begins with Superman having just lost a battle for the first time. The story focuses on his efforts to protect two fictional nations, Jarhanpur and Boravia, from renewed conflict.

Nicholas Hoult returns as the villain Lex Luthor, who unleashes a complicated plan involving a giant robot and a monster-like creature. Superman receives help from a new team called the Justice Gang, featuring characters such as Mister Terrific, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl.

However, some viewers may find the story crowded, and the personal side of Superman as Clark Kent, including his relationship with Lois Lane, is less developed.

Fans of classic Superman films may find this version solid but not exceptional. James Gunn’s signature humor appears occasionally but does not dominate the movie. The chemistry between the lead actors is noted as less charming compared to earlier Superman portrayals.

On the plus side, the film remains faithful to the DC Comics universe and introduces new characters that hint at future stories. One standout feature is Krypto, Superman’s super-powered dog, who provides several entertaining moments.

Overall, the film is recommended for viewers who enjoy a modern superhero story with some light humor and new characters. However, those looking for a deeper emotional story or a groundbreaking plot might be left wanting more.
