Selena Gomez Opens Up About Mental Health and How She Lifts Herself Up on Hard Days

Selena Gomez is opening up about how she navigates challenging days and the self-care practices that help her feel better. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the singer, actress, and Rare Beauty founder shared her strategies for lifting herself up when she’s not feeling her best.

At the Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles on October 29, 2025, Gomez explained that acknowledging her feelings is a big part of her approach. “Some days you just have to let yourself get it out, and then afterwards, a good laugh,” she said. “I don’t know the key. I just know what works for me.”

The 33-year-old star went on to share more details about her routine, which includes leaning on her support network. “I like to maybe just see one friend … and talk to my therapist, and look for people that help in the situation.”

Her advice is particularly fitting, as the Rare Impact Fund Benefit supports the Rare Impact Fund, which raises money for youth mental health initiatives. Gomez has long been an advocate for mental health awareness, and the event helps her organization work toward its mission of mobilizing $100 million in contributions for youth mental health services.

The benefit, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and featured performances by The Marias and Laufey, also marked a special moment for Gomez, who was accompanied by her husband, Benny Blanco. The couple, who tied the knot in Santa Barbara on September 27, 2025, appeared joyful as they supported the cause together.

“I hope that we continue to raise for what we’re doing all over the world,” Gomez said of the impact of the event. “We are reaching 2 million young people a day. It is something I couldn’t be more enthused about because it’s something that we’re actively seeing on the ground that people are working on, so it’s amazing.”
