Scarlett Johansson has revealed that she asked Marvel Studios to remove her executive producer (EP) credit from Thunderbolts after realizing she wasn’t involved in its production.
Speaking with co-star David Harbour for Interview magazine, Johansson said the credit was likely a contractual obligation left over from her past work with Marvel, including Black Widow.
Johansson explained that while some Marvel projects gave her a strong role, others with large ensemble casts made her feel like a “device” to push the plot forward.
Reflecting on her 11-year MCU journey, she admitted that committing to lengthy shoots for minimal character engagement sometimes made her feel trapped creatively.
Harbour, who stars in Thunderbolts and has played Jim Hopper in Stranger Things for nearly a decade, sympathized with Johansson’s comments about creative fatigue.
Johansson emphasized that while she misses her Marvel co-stars, she has no plans to return as Black Widow, whose story ended with Avengers: Endgame.
