Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE vs Standard: Outer Display Makes All the Difference

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Leaked Design

A new leak reveals how Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will differ from the standard Flip 7. The most obvious change is the outer display design, with the FE version using an older, more affordable approach.

Major Outer Display Difference

The biggest change between the two models is the cover display. The standard Galaxy Z Flip 7 copies the Motorola Razr series by extending its outer screen to all four sides and wrapping around the cameras.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE keeps the folder-style cover display that first appeared on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. This design choice is clearly a cost-cutting measure, similar to what Motorola does with its base Razr model.

Similar Internal Design

From the inside, both devices look very similar. Both feature:

  • Hole-punch selfie cameras
  • Large main displays
  • Similar overall layouts

The flagship Flip 7 appears to push its display slightly closer to the edges, though the difference is minimal in the leaked images.

Different Color Options

The leak shows different color choices for each model:

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7: Blue, red, and black
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: Black and white only

Samsung may announce additional color variants that weren’t shown in this leak.

Value Proposition Unclear

Leaker Evan Blass suggests the Flip 7 FE offers “crazy bang for your buck.” However, without official pricing information, it’s difficult to determine if the cost savings justify the feature differences.

The FE model appears to maintain most of the flagship’s core functionality while cutting costs on premium features like the advanced outer display.

Launch Timeline

Samsung has announced a July 9 event to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE may also be available after that date, despite previous rumors suggesting a delay.

Pre-Order Reservations Open

Samsung is accepting reservations for both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 with several benefits:

  • $50 credit for pre-orders
  • Up to $1,150+ in potential savings
  • 3x reward points
  • No obligation to purchase after reserving

The $50 credit can be applied toward accessories like the Galaxy Watch 8.

Smart Cost-Cutting Strategy

The FE model’s design choices reflect Samsung’s strategy to offer foldable phones at different price points. By using the older outer display design, Samsung can maintain the core foldable experience while reducing manufacturing costs.

This approach mirrors successful strategies used by other manufacturers in creating more affordable variants of flagship devices.
