Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch its first dual-foldable smartphone this year.
After showcasing prototypes for years, the company is expected to release the innovative device alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 in mid-2025.
Unique Dual-Folding Design
Unlike Huawei’s dual-folding phones, Samsung’s design folds twice inward, forming a “G” shape.
This approach avoids outward folding edges, making the device more durable. When fully folded, it functions as a standard phone, but when completely unfolded, it transforms into a large tablet.
Key Features and Challenges
Display: Manufactured by Samsung Display, the foldable screen offers a seamless transformation between phone and tablet modes.
Hinges: Tested by multiple suppliers, including FineMtech, KH Vatec, and Huanli.
Camera: The device will not feature an under-display camera.
The dual-foldable phone will require advanced software optimizations to handle different screen modes.
Its complexity and additional parts make it more expensive than current foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
Limited Production and High Price
Samsung reportedly plans to manufacture fewer than 300,000 units of the device.
With its innovative design and advanced features, the price is expected to be significantly higher than existing foldable models.
This dual-foldable phone could mark a new chapter in Samsung’s foldable technology, offering a glimpse into the future of hybrid devices.
