Samsung has confirmed that its first tri-fold smartphone will arrive by the end of this year, following months of speculation and unfulfilled expectations at recent launch events.
Samsung Electronics President TM Roh shared the update after the device was absent from the company’s Unpacked event this week. Roh stated that Samsung is still finalizing the product’s name, with “Galaxy G Fold” being one of the possible options. However, the focus now is on “perfecting the product and its usability.”
According to earlier leaks, the tri-fold phone will fold inwards and feature two displays: a main folding screen and a cover screen. This design protects the internal screen when closed, unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which has an outward-folding display. The more complex build is expected to make the device more expensive than current foldables.
Samsung’s most recent foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold7, was unveiled yesterday with a higher price than its predecessor. That trend is likely to continue with the tri-fold model, which is expected to become Samsung’s most advanced and costly foldable device to date.
Though foldable phones were once expected to become more affordable over time, rising production costs and premium components have led to higher prices instead. Samsung, however, continues to lead the market in innovation in this space.
A specific release date for the tri-fold phone has not been announced, but Samsung is targeting a launch before the end of 2025.
