At least seven people have been hospitalized following a Salmonella outbreak linked to meals produced and delivered by Metabolic Meals, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The outbreak has sickened 16 people across 10 states, including California, Missouri, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and Washington. Officials warn the actual number of cases could be higher, as it can take several weeks for illnesses to be reported and confirmed.

The contaminated meals were shipped during the week of July 28, and include:

  • Four Cheese Tortellini with Pesto Sauce and Grilled Chicken (Lot Code: 25199, Best By: 08/07/2025)
  • Low Carb Chicken Teriyaki and Vegetables (Lot Code: 25202, Best By: 08/05/2025)
  • Black Garlic & Ranch Chicken Tenders with Roasted Vegetables (Lot Code: 25205, Best By: 08/08/2025)
  • Sliced Top Sirloin with Roasted Peanut Sauce and Summer Vegetables (Lot Code: 25203, Best By: 08/06/2025)

In a statement, the CDC said:

“Metabolic Meals is collaborating with investigators and has reached out to customers directly who purchased the meal types listed above to inform them of the outbreak.”

Health officials urge anyone who consumed the affected products to contact a medical provider if they develop severe symptoms such as high fever, diarrhea lasting more than three days, bloody stools, vomiting, or dehydration.

Salmonella infections typically cause fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea, with symptoms appearing between six hours and six days after exposure. Most people recover without treatment, but severe cases may require hospitalization, especially among children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

The CDC continues to investigate the source of the contamination in collaboration with state and local health departments.

This incident follows several recent Salmonella-related recalls, including a July case involving a pistachio chocolate spread imported from Turkey, which also led to hospitalizations.
