BTS leader Kim Namjoon, better known as RM, celebrated his 31st birthday by donating a total of 200 million won (approximately $150,000) to two South Korean medical institutions. The funds will support underprivileged patients and enhance healthcare services.
RM donated 100 million won each to Seoul Asan Medical Center and Korea University Medical Center. Seoul Asan Medical Center plans to use the contribution to cover treatment and surgery expenses for economically disadvantaged patients. Korea University Medical Center intends to improve treatment facilities and expand its medical services.
In a statement to The Chosun Daily, RM said, “I decided to donate in the hopes that it would provide a small but warm hope to patients. It’s meaningful to be able to participate, even if only a little, in spreading the value of medical advancement and respect for life.”
Yoon Eul-sik, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Korea University, praised RM’s contribution. “RM’s warm heart, striving to create a better world, will be a great help in helping patients regain their health. We will cherish the value of sharing you have shared and do our best to nurture its fruits,” he said.
This is not RM’s first charitable initiative. In 2024, he donated 100 million won to the Everyone’s Veterans Dream project, which supports families of uniformed service members recognized for national merit.
Alongside his philanthropic work, RM acknowledged his fans on social media. Posting a mirror selfie on Instagram, he wrote, “Thank you. I miss you all,” as a message to the BTS ARMY.
