BTS members RM and V have completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. The two were discharged on Tuesday in Chuncheon City, where around 200 fans gathered to celebrate their return.
Some fans traveled from as far as Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil to witness the event. “We’re so excited to be here,” said Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla, who flew in from Mexico City.
RM and V began their service in December 2023. Three other BTS members — Jin, J-Hope, and Suga — had already started their service before them.
Jin was discharged in June 2024, and J-Hope followed in October. Jimin and JungKook will be discharged Wednesday, completing their active military duties. Suga is currently finishing his service as a social service agent and is expected to be released later this month.
With RM and V now discharged, BTS plans to reunite later in 2025.
Military service is required for all able-bodied South Korean men aged 18 to 28, usually lasting 18 to 21 months. Although South Korea offers exemptions for athletes and classical musicians who win major international awards, K-pop stars do not receive special treatment.
BTS was allowed to delay their service until age 30 after a change in the law. After much debate, BTS confirmed in 2022 that all seven members would complete their duties.
As the last members finish their service, BTS is preparing to come back as a full group in 2025, with fans around the world eagerly waiting.
