Record-Breaking Demand for Apple’s iOS 26 Beta, Says Tim Cook

Apple CEO Tim Cook says iOS 26 is “by far” the most popular beta software Apple has ever released. He also said the same about the betas for iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe.

Tim Cook made the statement during Apple’s quarterly earnings call on July 31, 2025. He noted that many developers are testing the new updates early.

One reason for the excitement is the new “Liquid Glass” design, which gives Apple devices a fresh look. People are also eager to try new features on their iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

In the past, developers were slower to install macOS beta versions. But this year, many are trying macOS Tahoe early—likely to test app compatibility with the new system.

Apple used to charge $99 per year to access developer betas, but that fee has been dropped in recent years. This change may have helped increase beta downloads.

The popularity of these developer betas shows strong interest in Apple’s upcoming software. Public betas are also available and likely seeing similar interest.
