PS5 Gamers Can Instantly Double Download Speeds With This Hidden Setting

Many PlayStation 5 users are just now discovering a simple setting that can instantly boost download speeds, solving long-standing issues with slow downloads.

As modern games reach massive file sizes — often over 100GB or more — fast downloads are essential. If your PS5 feels sluggish when downloading digital games, this quick settings tweak might be all you need.

Here’s how to do it:

Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
Select your connection, press Options, and change the frequency band from “Automatic” to “5GHz”. Then hit Confirm.

This trick was highlighted by Reddit user BroncoBoy91, who reported immediate improvements. Dozens of users confirmed similar results:

  • Instantly dropped from 80 minutes to 20 minutes.”
  • Blazing fast now – thank you!”
  • Lifesaver. Didn’t know this setting existed.

Why it works:
Many PS5 consoles default to the 2.4GHz band, which is slower and more congested. Switching to 5GHz provides faster speeds and more stability, especially on modern routers.

Important Note:
This method works best if your router supports 5GHz and is close to your PS5. Also, your ISP speed plan still sets the ultimate cap — this tweak only helps if your console isn’t using your full internet potential.

If you’ve been dealing with painfully slow downloads, it’s worth trying this trick. No need for extra tools or hardware — just a quick setting change and you’re good to go.
