If you’re suspicious that your partner might be cheating, a top private investigator says there are four major red flags you shouldn’t ignore.
Tom Martin, a former federal agent and professional PI, shared with The Independent the most common signs of infidelity based on his decades of experience. He also authored the book Seeing Life through Private Eyes, where he lists 20 key “giveaway” signs of a cheating partner.
The Four Most Common Signs of Cheating:
1. Spending More Time at Work
If your partner is suddenly working late or staying longer at the office without a clear reason, it could be a cover for something else. A noticeable change in routine is often a warning sign.
2. Frequent Business Trips
Business trips that come out of nowhere or increase without clear explanation might be suspicious. Martin says this is a classic move used to create distance without raising alarm.
3. Less Sexual Intimacy
While fluctuations in sex life can be normal, a sudden drop in intimacy may indicate that your partner is emotionally or physically involved with someone else.
4. Becoming Defensive
If your partner reacts with defensiveness or hostility when you ask simple questions, it could mean they’re hiding something.
What’s Changed in Catching Cheaters?
Martin says technology has made it easier to expose infidelity, but it has also made cheating easier to hide. From secret social media accounts to hidden apps and burner phones, cheaters have more tools at their disposal than ever before.
However, Martin cautions: “Don’t jump to conclusions that could jeopardize a valuable relationship over unfounded anxieties.” Instead, look for a pattern of behavior rather than a one-off incident.
