Pokémon Legends: Z-A Unveils Mega Hawlucha With Lucha Libre Flair

Mega Hawlucha With Lucha Libre Flair in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The Pokémon Company has introduced Mega Hawlucha, a new Mega Evolution debuting in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, set for release on 16 October 2025 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

The Fighting/Flying-type Pokémon, known as the Wrestling Pokémon, takes on a striking new design inspired by lucha libre. Standing at 3 feet 3 inches and weighing 55.1 pounds, Mega Hawlucha features a black-and-gold mask, ornate plumage, and a cape-like silhouette, emphasizing its role as a theatrical ring fighter.

A cinematic trailer revealed Mega Hawlucha in a wrestling-style battle against Machamp, showcasing its signature move, Flying Press. In its enhanced form, the Pokémon absorbs hits with its muscular build before retaliating with high-impact aerial attacks.

Mega Hawlucha becomes the 51st Mega Evolution confirmed for the game, joining additions such as Mega Dragonite and Mega Victreebel. The form adds a new layer of strategy to the real-time battle system set in Lumiose City, the central location of the upcoming title.

To mark the reveal, The Pokémon Company will host a special event in Mexico City on 25 September in partnership with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). The celebration at Arena México will feature four exhibition wrestling matches headlined by star luchador Místico, streamed live on Pokémon and CMLL’s YouTube channels.

The announcement has generated strong fan reaction, with many highlighting Mega Hawlucha’s dynamic design and the cultural tribute to Mexican wrestling.
