New leaks suggest that Sony may already be preparing for the next generation of gaming with the development of the PlayStation 6.
Reports from well-known tech leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead claim the company is working on a major transition to the new console. The leaks indicate that the next PlayStation could arrive sooner than previously expected.
One key feature mentioned in the leaks is support for a new handheld device. The report suggests that a “Power Saver Mode” being introduced in current development tools may actually be designed to support a future portable version of the console.
The mode reportedly allows games to run with fewer processing threads. According to the leak, this setup closely matches the expected hardware of a handheld system linked to the PlayStation 6.
Another new feature called “PlayGo” has also appeared in recent developer tools for the PlayStation 5. The system would allow developers to split game files so each console only downloads the content it needs.
This approach is similar to Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system used for Xbox Series X and other Xbox consoles. It helps reduce download sizes and improves performance across different hardware versions.
The leaks also suggest that Sony is designing the next console to be cheaper to manufacture. Reports say the company is aiming to reduce production costs compared with the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Sony has not confirmed any details about the PlayStation 6. However, if the leaks are accurate, the company could be preparing for its next major console launch within the next few years.
