The iconic Pebble smartwatch brand has officially reclaimed its original name, marking a major milestone in its long-awaited comeback. Core Devices CEO Eric Migicovsky announced that the company has successfully recovered the Pebble trademark, allowing its new smartwatches to once again be called Pebble.
In a recent blog update, Migicovsky shared the news: “Great news — we’ve been able to recover the trademark for Pebble! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this to work out so easily.” As a result, the previously named Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 watches will now be known as the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2.
Pebble was one of the first smartwatch brands to gain widespread popularity, known for its simple design and loyal user base. However, the company struggled to compete with tech giants like Apple and Samsung, and was eventually acquired by Fitbit in 2016 for $23 million. Later, Fitbit itself was acquired by Google.
Earlier this year, Migicovsky revealed plans to revive the Pebble brand. Since the trademark was not initially available, the new watches were launched under the “Core” branding. Now, the return to the Pebble name reinforces the brand’s legacy and deep connection with its community.
The Pebble community, including fans who formed the grassroots “Rebble” project to keep their devices running, played a key role in keeping the brand alive. Migicovsky acknowledged this loyalty in his announcement, writing that the recovered trademark means developers can now freely use the Pebble name for related hardware and software projects.
The official return of the Pebble name is expected to boost the brand’s renewed efforts in the smartwatch market, especially among nostalgic fans and developers.
