Peacock has officially announced the title and premiere date of its new mockumentary series from The Office team. The show is called The Paper, and it will debut in September 2025.
Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, the series follows the staff of a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. The story centers on the paper’s publisher, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who is trying to keep the publication alive despite having no budget and an inexperienced, mostly volunteer staff.
Oscar Nuñez will return as Oscar Martinez, bringing a familiar face from The Office to the new setting. Nuñez joked during NBCUniversal’s upfront event that his character was moved to Toledo instead of a more cosmopolitan city, but noted it has “three times the population of Scranton.”
Daniels explained that the new show will explore the decline of local newspapers and how internet platforms have taken over ad revenue. He called the premise “fruitful” for comedy, especially with a newsroom full of untrained volunteers.
The Paper also stars Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key, with several guest stars lined up, including Tracy Letts and Molly Ephraim.
The series is produced by Universal Television and executive produced by Daniels, Koman, and The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
Fans of The Office can expect the same documentary-style humor, now set in the chaotic world of local journalism.
