Oracle and a group of investors, including Microsoft, are reportedly in talks to take over TikTok’s global operations, according to NPR.

The deal, which is being negotiated with the White House, would allow ByteDance to retain a minority stake in TikTok. However, Oracle would oversee the app’s algorithm, data collection, and software updates.

Oracle, which already provides the server infrastructure for TikTok, would take a central role in monitoring and overseeing the app’s activities. The aim of the agreement is to reduce Chinese ownership of TikTok, ensuring greater oversight and transparency.

Microsoft’s involvement in the talks remains unclear, but it was also part of a 2020 bid, alongside Oracle and Walmart, to acquire TikTok. Walmart, however, is not participating in the current discussions due to concerns over the app’s estimated price.

The news comes after President Trump signed an executive order granting TikTok a 75-day reprieve from enforcement actions related to ByteDance’s divestment from the app. Trump had previously suggested a potential “joint venture” where the U.S. would own 50% of TikTok.

We’ve reached out to Oracle, Microsoft, TikTok, and the White House for comment.
