Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs launched today and were instantly sold out.
The RTX 5090, priced at $2,000, disappeared from shelves within minutes, while the more affordable RTX 5080 ($1,200) also faced extreme shortages.
Retailers had very limited stock, with some reporting no availability at all. Nvidia had already warned about potential shortages, and UK retailer Scan estimates new stock won’t arrive until May.
Scalpers are now reselling the RTX 5090 for over $5,000 on eBay and Facebook Marketplace, capitalizing on the high demand.
Unveiled at CES 2025, the RTX 5090 features 32 GB of GDDR7 memory with a massive 1.792 GB/sec bandwidth—a 75% increase over the RTX 4090. The RTX 5080 has 16 GB of GDDR7 RAM with a 960 GB/sec bandwidth.
Both cards include fifth-gen Tensor cores with FP4 support, improving performance and reducing VRAM requirements for AI models.
With stock wiped out instantly and prices skyrocketing on resale platforms, getting one of these GPUs anytime soon may be a challenge for most buyers.
