The Nintendo Switch 2 could be launching sooner than expected, with March 28, 2025 rumored as the release date, according to an Italian website, UAGNA.
The site claims that both first-party and third-party accessories for the console will hit the market on that date, leading them to speculate that the console itself will launch on the same day.
While this rumor should be taken with caution, it’s not entirely out of the question. A previous rumor suggested that the console might be revealed in January 2025, followed by a late March release.
If true, this would be a much faster rollout compared to the Nintendo Switch, which was first shown in October 2016 and released in March 2017.
The Switch 2 is expected to feature a customized NVIDIA Tegra 239 SoC, based on the Orin SoC, and will likely support 4K resolution at 30 frames per second when docked.
However, this frame rate may disappoint some, as rival consoles from Sony and Microsoft have long supported higher frame rates, including up to 120 frames per second.
Despite the potentially underwhelming performance specs, analysts remain optimistic about the Switch 2’s sales, with projections suggesting 80 million units sold by 2028.
Much of its success will depend on the games available at launch, with Metroid Prime 4 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 possibly being major titles for the new console.
