Prototype components for a potential Nintendo Switch 2 OLED model have appeared for sale on a Chinese second-hand marketplace, though their authenticity remains unverified.
A seller on Xianyu, China’s largest second-hand platform, is offering what they claim are mid-frame components from a Nintendo Switch 2 OLED model.
The parts are reportedly production samples from 2024 and appear nearly identical to the standard launch model, with differences only in side lettering and silver-white colouring on some units.
The discovery was first reported by users on gaming forums, who noted the seller’s inventory includes various electronics production materials. These range from blank PlayStation 5 circuit boards to original Nintendo Switch components, suggesting possible connections to manufacturing facilities.
However, no official confirmation exists that these parts relate to an actual OLED variant. The components could potentially indicate Nintendo is testing different colour schemes for future releases rather than display technology upgrades.
An OLED display upgrade would address known quality issues with the current Nintendo Switch 2 screen. Users have reported the existing display offers below-average quality, poor HDR support, and inferior motion performance compared to its predecessor.
While OLED technology would improve visual quality, it could create compatibility issues with variable refresh rate features. Nintendo has not announced plans for alternative display options or model variants.
The gaming industry frequently sees prototype components appear on secondary markets before official product announcements, though many prove to be concept designs rather than finalised products.
Nintendo has not responded to requests for comment about the alleged components.
