Nintendo has revealed a new set of Joy-Con 2 controllers for the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring a “Light Purple and Light Green” colour scheme, which is closer to lilac and turquoise in appearance. The controllers will be available on 12 February, coinciding with the release of Mario Tennis Fever.
Unlike traditional colourful Joy-Cons, much of the new design is hidden when the controllers are attached to the console. Only a small coloured ring around the analog sticks is visible, while the main body remains black, matching the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
The new Joy-Con 2 set is priced at $99.99 and is already available for pre-order through the official Nintendo store. While the design offers a subtle aesthetic, many fans online have expressed disappointment at the mostly black look.
On Reddit, users criticised the design for lacking visibility. One wrote, “I feel like it loses some lustre when you can only see the colour on the sticks unless using them detached,” while another added, “Considering you basically still see black and just a tinge of the colour under the sticks, this kinda sucks.”
Despite the muted response, the new Joy-Con 2 controllers may appeal to those who want a small pop of colour without changing the console’s overall black aesthetic. Nintendo fans looking for more vivid colours may need to wait for future releases.
