Comedian Nikki Glaser opened the 83rd Golden Globe Awards with a sharp and humorous monologue that quickly drew attention online, including a pointed joke about Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating habits.
Glaser, hosting the ceremony on Sunday night, praised DiCaprio’s long and successful career before delivering the punchline. DiCaprio, 51, attended the event without his 27-year-old girlfriend, model Vittoria Ceretti.
“What a career you’ve had,” Glaser said. “You’ve worked with every great director, won three Golden Globes and an Oscar — and the most impressive thing is you did all of that before your girlfriend turned 30.”
The joke drew loud laughter from the audience. DiCaprio was seen smiling, clapping, and taking the comment in good humor. The moment quickly spread across social media.
Glaser later apologized playfully, calling the joke “cheap” and adding, “We don’t know anything else about you, man.” The follow-up line earned another round of laughs.
The roast was in line with Glaser’s bold hosting style. During her monologue, she also made jokes about media organizations and other celebrities, setting an energetic tone for the night.
Despite the joke, the evening was a strong one for DiCaprio’s film One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Female Actor for Teyana Taylor.
DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, but the award went to Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme.
Glaser’s monologue became one of the most talked-about moments of the ceremony, reinforcing her reputation as a fearless host who mixes praise with sharp comedy.
