New Spotify Feature Lets Users Add Custom DJ-Style Song Transitions

Spotify Custom Transition

Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows Premium subscribers to add custom transitions between songs in their playlists. The tool, launched on 19 August 2025, is currently in beta and available in most regions worldwide, with some areas still waiting for access.

The feature lets users blend tracks to create seamless mixes, similar to professional DJ sets. To use it, listeners can open a playlist and select the “Mix” option from the toolbar. They can choose automatic transitions or adjust settings such as volume, equalizer, and effects.

Presets like “Fade” or “Rise” are available for quick use, while advanced options display waveforms, beat data, and track details like key and BPM for precise editing.

Spotify has also added collaboration tools, allowing Premium users to work together on shared playlists and edit transitions collectively. Mixed playlists can receive unique cover art with special stickers and labels. Users can easily switch the feature on or off to move between customized and standard playback.

The company says the tool improves personalization by helping people create playlists suited for different activities such as parties, workouts, or travel. The update is seen as a response to Apple Music’s AutoMix, though Spotify’s feature offers more manual controls as well as automated options.

To access the new feature, Premium users must update their Spotify app.
