Netflix & Crunchyroll Team Up for Witch Watch Spring’s Hottest Anime

Anime fans, mark your calendars! Netflix and Crunchyroll have announced they will stream the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Shonen Jump’s Witch Watch this April. Both platforms will share streaming rights for the romantic fantasy series, ensuring fans everywhere can watch it.

Witch Watch was first announced as an anime adaptation in December 2024. The series, produced by Bibury Animation Studios (The Quintessential Quintuplets sequels), will run for two continuous cours (half a year). Ahead of the streaming debut, GKIDS will host Witch Watch: Watch Party theatrical screenings across North America starting mid-March.

What Is Witch Watch About?

Based on the popular manga by Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint, Witch Watch tells the story of Nico Wakatsuki, a teenage witch, and Morihito Otogi, her ogre familiar who looks like a regular human. Childhood friends, Nico has a crush on Morihito, and now they must live together under one roof. Together, they navigate supernatural chaos, romantic tension, and hilarious hijinks.

The manga has been a hit, with 20 volumes in circulation and over 1 million copies sold. It stands out as one of Jump Comics’ most successful romantic fantasy series, loved for its humor, heartwarming moments, and magical adventures.

Will There Be a Licensing War?

The shared streaming arrangement between Netflix and Crunchyroll is unusual but not unheard of. Popular anime like One Piece and Dandadan have appeared on both platforms in the past. However, as anime grows more popular worldwide, the competition for exclusive rights is heating up.

Bloomberg reports that Crunchyroll rolled back its promotion of Dandadan during its simultaneous release on Netflix, hinting at underlying tensions. Despite this, Witch Watch may avoid such issues and find success on both platforms.

Why Fans Are Excited

With its mix of magic, romance, and humor, Witch Watch is shaping up to be one of spring 2025’s standout anime. Whether you’re a fan of the manga or looking for your next binge-worthy series, Witch Watch promises to deliver a magical viewing experience.

Witch Watch will premiere in April on Netflix and Crunchyroll. Don’t miss it!
