Netflix has confirmed that season 2 of 3 Body Problem will be released in 2026, ending months of uncertainty for fans of the sci-fi series. However, the streaming service has not announced a specific release date or month.
The show is based on the novels by Chinese author Liu Cixin and is created by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo. Season 1 premiered in March 2024 and was later renewed for two more seasons.
Netflix also confirmed that seasons 2 and 3 are being filmed back-to-back. Production began in Hungary in July 2025, a schedule that suggests season 2 will likely arrive in the second half of 2026, due to the show’s heavy use of visual effects.
While the wait for season 2 will be just over two years, the filming plan means season 3 may not take as long to follow. Industry expectations suggest the final season could be released in early 2027, though this has not been confirmed.
Season 1 received a generally positive response. The series currently holds a 78% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 76% audience rating, praising its ambitious story and large-scale themes.
The story follows scientists trying to stop an alien invasion planned centuries in the future. Reviews highlighted the show’s scope and complex storytelling, while noting some challenges in fully adapting the original books.
Most of the main cast is expected to return, including Eiza González, Liam Cunningham, Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, Jess Hong, and Alex Sharp. Netflix has also confirmed new cast members Claudia Doumit and Ellie de Lange for season 2.
With the release window now confirmed, fans are expected to see promotional images and a trailer later in 2026, offering a first look at what lies ahead in the show’s penultimate season.
