Netflix’s 2025 Anime Lineup: New Stories and Fan Favorites Return

The Summer Hikaru Died (Netflix Anime)

Netflix is set to expand its anime collection in 2025 with a variety of new series, promising something for every kind of fan. From emotional coming-of-age stories to thrilling battles for humanity’s survival, the streaming giant continues to embrace the global popularity of anime.

Anime already captivates more than half of Netflix’s members worldwide, and the platform’s latest slate includes fresh stories as well as the return of fan favourites.

Highlights for 2025 include:

The Summer Hikaru Died (July 5)
A haunting tale about two best friends in a rural Japanese village, where one returns changed and their lives unravel. Based on the comic by Mokumokuren and directed by Ryohei Takeshita.

Leviathan (July 10)
Set in 1914, this story follows a fugitive prince and a disguised girl aboard a bioengineered airship as they alter history. Directed by Christophe Ferreira, it’s adapted from the book by Scott Westerfeld.

Sakamoto Days (July 14)
The story of Taro Sakamoto, a former top hitman who retired for love but must fight to protect his family when his past catches up with him. This series is based on the popular manga by Yuto Suzuki and directed by Masaki Watanabe.

My Melody & Kuromi (July 24)
A charming stop-motion animation celebrating the anniversaries of Sanrio’s beloved characters My Melody and Kuromi. Directed by Tomoki Misato.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity (September 7)
Set in a town divided by rival schools, it follows the unlikely bond between Rintaro and Kaoruko, who face social barriers to be together. Based on the manga by Saka Mikami and directed by Miyuki Kuroki.

Record of Ragnarok Season 3 (December)
The epic saga continues with intense one-on-one battles between gods and humans for humanity’s survival. Directed by Koichi Hatsumi.

Other exciting projects include Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a new 10-episode story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and the final season of the acclaimed series BEASTARS, expected in 2026.

Netflix’s expanding anime library ensures fans, both new and longtime, will have plenty to look forward to throughout the year.
