Max Verstappen Could Win the 2025 Title as McLaren Faces Double DSQ Threat!

McLaren Las Vegas GP 2025

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are at risk of losing their second- and fourth-place results from the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix after the FIA opened an investigation into a possible technical rules breach.

The FIA confirmed that both McLaren cars were found to have excessive plank wear during post-race checks. According to the technical report, the “rearmost skid” on Norris’ car (No. 04) and Piastri’s car (No. 81) measured below the minimum required thickness of 9 mm.

Under Article 3.5.9 e) of the Formula One Technical Regulations, the plank assembly must measure 10 mm when new, with a minimum of 9 mm allowed due to wear. Any measurement below this limit is considered a breach.

Technical delegate Jo Bauer reported the findings to the stewards, who later summoned McLaren representatives, along with Norris and Piastri, to a hearing scheduled for 23:45 local time.

If the stewards confirm the violation, both drivers are likely to be disqualified from the race results. Such an outcome would significantly impact the Drivers’ Championship standings.

A double disqualification would strengthen Max Verstappen’s position, closing the points gap with Norris and bringing him level with Piastri at 366 points. Norris would remain 24 points ahead with two races left in the season.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
