Disney has reached a settlement with actress Gina Carano, ending her wrongful termination lawsuit.
Carano, 43, played Cara Dune in the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. She was fired in February 2021 after a social media post compared the treatment of conservatives in the U.S. to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust. Disney said her comments “denigrated people based on their cultural and religious identities.”
The actress claimed she was dismissed because of her conservative views. She sued Disney in 2024, demanding damages and asking to be recast in her role. The case was financially backed by Elon Musk, whose social media platform X offered to support people who said they were wrongfully discriminated against for their posts.
Disney initially asked the court to dismiss the case, arguing it had the right not to associate with her views. On Thursday, the company changed its tone, calling Carano “well respected” and expressing interest in working with her again.
“I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved,” Carano said. “I hope this brings some healing to the Force… I am excited to move onto the next chapter.”
The settlement ends a public dispute that lasted more than three years.
