Michael Phillips, 38, from North Carolina, has opened up about living with a micropenis and the challenges it brings to his daily life.
Michael was diagnosed last year with a 0.38-inch micropenis, far smaller than the average 5.2 inches measured in the UK, and says he was unaware growing up that this was a medical condition. Experts say it is usually caused by a fetal testosterone deficiency.
The art dealer explained that he avoids one-night stands and finds even using public restrooms difficult. “I can’t go out and do things like that. It also affects your confidence,” he said.
He added that being open with women has helped him gain perspective. “I’ve learned there’s a huge population of people that just don’t care about that sort of thing,” Michael said.
Michael also recommends early diagnosis for others with the condition. While treatments exist, he says they mostly offer minor physical changes, like ligament cutting or liposuction, rather than significant growth.
To other men with micropenis, he advises finding a safe space to talk about it. “We all have issues going on, some more than others. But there’s always somebody out there that has it worse than you,” he said.
