Man Who Broke Into Eminem’s Home Twice Sentenced to 30 Years

Eminem’s stalker, Matthew Hughes, has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison after breaking into the rapper’s home for a second time. The 32-year-old was found guilty of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking.

Hughes received two separate sentences: 15 to 30 years for the home invasion and an additional three to seven-and-a-half years for stalking. These sentences will run one after the other. He is also banned from contacting Eminem or coming within 500 feet of the rapper’s home or workplace.

The trial included testimony from Eminem himself. This wasn’t Hughes’ first offense. In 2020, Hughes broke into Eminem’s home while the rapper was sleeping. When Eminem confronted him, Hughes told him he was there to kill him. Hughes later accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to probation.

However, after violating that probation with an assault arrest in 2021, Hughes spent time in jail. He was released on parole in May 2024, but months later, he broke into Eminem’s home again, leading to this most recent conviction.

Hughes also made headlines in 2019 for being caught sleeping in the guest house of a property once owned by Eminem.

With this sentence, the court hopes to prevent further threats to Eminem’s safety.
