Lorde Earns Fourth ARIA No. 1 Album with ‘Virgin’

Lorde has reached a new milestone in her career. Her latest album, Virgin, debuts at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week. This makes Virgin her fourth album to top the charts in Australia.

The New Zealand singer-songwriter first reached No. 1 with her debut album, Pure Heroine, in 2013. She followed with chart-toppers Melodrama in 2017 and Solar Power in 2021.

Lorde shared her excitement in a recent social media post. “This album broke me apart and forged a new creature out of me. I am so proud to stand before you today as her, grateful for this beautiful life spent singing to myself and to you, for as long as you’ll have me. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, down to my cells,” she wrote.

Lorde’s chart win comes soon after her surprise performance at the Glastonbury festival in England. She is preparing to start her Ultrasound World Tour in the United States this November. Lorde also teased a special release of Virgin B-sides, including songs that did not appear on the new album.

Other highlights on the albums chart this week include the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack rising to No. 2 and Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem holding at No. 3. Australian artist The Kid LAROI’s album The First Time rebounded to No. 47, boosted by his new song with Thundercat.

On the singles chart, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” remains at No. 1 for the fifteenth week. This ties Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” for the third-longest run at the top in ARIA chart history.

Lorde’s new album and strong chart performance underline her lasting popularity and influence in Australia.
