A lip reader claims to have uncovered what Brigitte Macron said to her husband, French President Emmanuel Macron, in a viral video where she appears to slap or push his face.
The incident happened as the couple landed in Hanoi, Vietnam, during the president’s Southeast Asian tour. Video footage showed Brigitte placing both hands on Macron’s face and pushing him back just as the airplane door opened.
While Macron smiled and waved to cameras as if nothing happened, many online questioned the strange moment. A lip reader speaking to The Express gave their take on what was said.
According to the lip reader, Macron first said “Hi” and told Brigitte “Let’s go” as the door opened. Brigitte, however, refused to hold his arm and instead held the railing. That’s when she allegedly said in French, “Dégage, espèce de loser”, which translates to “Stay away, you loser.”
The lip reader claims Macron responded, “Essayons, s’il te plaît” (“Let’s try, please?”), to which Brigitte replied simply, “Non” (“No”). Macron allegedly ended the exchange with “Je vois” (“I see”).
The president later addressed the clip, saying it was “a joke” and denying any serious issue.
“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife… and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe,” Macron said, dismissing the speculation.
Macron, 47, and Brigitte, 72, have been married since 2007. The couple’s relationship first made headlines because of their age gap and how they met—she was his teacher when he was 15.
