Apple may release its thinnest iPhone yet, called the iPhone 17 Air, later this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The new model is expected to follow the design philosophy of the MacBook Air and iPad Air, prioritizing sleekness and innovation.

What to Expect from the iPhone 17 Air

The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be about 2 millimeters thinner than current models, potentially measuring between 5.5mm and 6.25mm. This would make it slimmer than the iPhone 6, the thinnest iPhone to date.

The phone will reportedly serve as a “testing ground for future technologies,” including features that could pave the way for Apple’s first foldable devices.

It may also debut Apple’s in-house Sinope cell modem, which is expected to appear first in the iPhone SE this spring.

Other Key Features

Display: A 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, previously exclusive to Pro models.

Cameras: A single 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel selfie camera.

Performance: Powered by the A19 chip, paired with 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence AI features.

Connectivity: Expected to include Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips.

Why Thinness Matters

Apple’s push for a slimmer design aligns with its goal of developing foldable iPads and iPhones in the future.

A thinner form factor allows for more compact and flexible devices, making the iPhone 17 Air a critical step in this direction.

Release and Availability

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch alongside other iPhone 17 models in the fall of 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates on Apple’s latest innovations.
