Los Angeles police have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of longtime “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca, who were found shot to death in their Encino home on Monday.
The suspect has been identified as Raymond Boodarian, 22, of Encino. Both victims were 70 years old.
Police discovered the bodies after receiving a welfare check request from someone who had not heard from the couple for several days. Officers found the pair dead from gunshot wounds at their residence in the 4700 block of White Oak Place.
According to investigators, the killings appear to have resulted from a burglary gone wrong. Police believe Boodarian entered the home through an unlocked door while the couple was away. When Kaye and Deluca returned home and encountered the suspect inside their residence, a confrontation occurred that led to the double homicide.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot, police said.
Homicide investigators pieced together the case by interviewing friends and family, reviewing surveillance footage, and collecting evidence from the crime scene. They discovered that police had previously responded to a call about a possible burglary suspect at the same address on July 10 around 4 p.m., though no signs of forced entry or trouble were found during that initial investigation.
Kaye worked as a music supervisor on “American Idol” for many years, helping to coordinate the musical elements of the popular singing competition show.
The investigation remains active, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
